SOPP

Pendle from November 2020

The Sopp pendle is made in a lasercut project. It is designed to give a cozy light with a playful shadow fallout. The pendle is easy to assemble and disassemble as the different parts can be clicked on and off. Designing the pendle, I had my focus on playfulness, light fallout and an elegant expression with inspiration in nature.

Sopp is the Norwegian word for mushroom, which was mainly my source of inspiration as I found the shape and structure very interesting. Furthermore I wanted nature to become part of the home with this pendle.

Mushrooms have both symmetric and asymmetric features. However I was amazed by the structure of the gills. They somehow soothed my eyes and I liked the soft and smooth appearance that makes you want to feel and touch. Though the gills seem symmetric at first glance with the repetitions of the short and longer strings they are very different.

The organic structure made me inspired to create the shape of Sopp. I also wanted to keep the first impression of the symmetrical look, as it for me was the most magical feature.

The foundation of Sopp is thereby build upon contrasts as seen in nature, in this regard mushrooms. The light gills making dark shadows in the recess, the repetition of the lamellas and the organic shape.

I juggled with these features and instead of creating a one on one picture of the mushroom I mixed these contrasts and designed the pendle from these but placed them differently to complement the design and also the environment it will be placed in.

The pendle makes a beautiful shadow fallout that gives a cozy and comfortable atmosphere and brings life to the room.
